At Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, every smile tells a story. Some begin in the food pantry line, others in the classroom, and some, the smallest ones, begin in a parent’s arms. On a recent morning, those tiny stories came together in the soft rustle of packages, the laughter of mothers and fathers, and the sight of dozens of babies leaving our campus with what every child deserves: a clean, dry diaper.
For many families in our community, this simple necessity is also a constant worry. Diapers are expensive, and assistance programs such as SNAP and WIC do not cover them. When you add the rising cost of groceries, rent, and gas, it’s easy to understand why parents often face difficult choices: buy diapers or buy food. No family should ever have to make that decision, and thanks to our partnership with the Tampa Bay Diaper Bank, many don’t have to anymore.
Each month, more than 120 families receive diapers and baby essentials through this collaboration. It’s one of those partnerships that goes beyond distribution. It’s about dignity, relief, and compassion. Because a diaper may be small, but what it represents is enormous — stability for a family, comfort for a child, and peace of mind for a parent doing their best.
A Morning of Joy and Gratitude
The most recent diaper event at Beth-El was more than a handout; it was a celebration of care. Volunteers and staff came together early in the morning to set up tables filled with diapers of all sizes, wipes, baby lotion, and other essentials.
As each parent approached the table, they were greeted with a smile and a simple question: “What size do you need?” The atmosphere was warm and full of gratitude. Parents left not only with supplies but with a renewed sense of being seen and supported.
For Beth-El, that’s exactly what this partnership means, understanding. Understanding that community wellness starts with meeting basic needs, and that belonging grows when families feel cared for, not judged.

Across the United States, one in two families struggles to afford enough diapers for their babies. The effects go far beyond hygiene. Without an adequate supply, parents often can’t leave their children at daycare, which affects their ability to work. Babies who stay too long in a soiled diaper are more likely to develop rashes and infections, creating additional stress and health risks for families already navigating so much.
