For many farmworker families, however, summer can be one of the busiest and most demanding times of the year.
While many people are planning trips or enjoying time off, farmworkers are waking up before sunrise and preparing for long days in the fields. Long before most of us begin our day, they are already at work, helping grow, harvest, and care for the crops that eventually make their way to grocery stores, restaurants, and dinner tables across the country.
For these families, summer is not about slowing down. It is about showing up, day after day, despite the challenges that come with the season.
As temperatures rise, so do the demands of the work. Long hours outdoors, intense heat, physical labor, and the uncertainty that often comes with agricultural work can make summer especially difficult. The work itself is physically demanding, but the responsibilities do not end when the workday is over.
Many farmworker families are balancing much more than their jobs in the fields. They are raising children, managing household expenses, planning for the future, and navigating the unexpected challenges that life can bring. During the summer months, when children are home from school and utility bills often increase, those responsibilities can become even greater.

That is something many of us do not always see.
We see the fresh produce at the grocery store. We see the fruits and vegetables on our dinner tables. We enjoy the meals they help make possible. What we often do not see are the people behind that work.
We do not see the parents waking up before dawn.
We do not see the workers spending hours under the Florida sun.
We do not see the families making sacrifices so they can continue providing for their loved ones.
Behind every harvest is a person. Behind every crop is a family. Behind every meal is a story of dedication, perseverance, and commitment.
There is a quiet strength in that kind of work. It is not always recognized or celebrated. It rarely makes headlines. Yet it is the kind of strength that keeps communities moving forward. It is the strength of people who continue showing up even when circumstances are difficult because they know others depend on them.
At Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, that reality is not overlooked. It is understood.
For 50 years, Beth-El has walked alongside farmworker families through every season of life. Through times of uncertainty, moments of hardship, and periods of growth, the organization has remained committed to supporting the people behind the work.
What began as a response to immediate needs has grown into a community rooted in dignity, compassion, and long-term support.
