While much of the country associates heat with summer vacations and beach days, for Florida’s farmworkers, it’s something else entirely—an invisible danger that creeps into their workdays, their health, and their homes.
High temperatures persist well beyond the summer months here in Tampa and surrounding communities. When you’re working outdoors for 8–10 hours a day, those extra degrees can become life-threatening. Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are not just risks—they’re realities.
The heat doesn’t just affect the body—it drains the mind and spirit. It makes it harder to sleep. It increases stress on already struggling families. And for children watching their parents endure those conditions, it quietly teaches them that survival often comes at a cost.
