Each year, from March 25th to 31st, we observe National Farmworker Awareness Week—a time dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of farmworkers and raising awareness about the challenges they face. This week coincides with the birthday of César Chávez on March 31st, honoring his legacy as a leader in the farmworker movement.
The Significance of Farmworkers
Farmworkers are the backbone of our agricultural industry, laboring tirelessly to ensure that fresh fruits and vegetables reach our tables. Despite their essential role, they often work under strenuous conditions, facing long hours, exposure to harsh weather, and limited access to healthcare and other essential services. Their dedication and resilience are commendable, yet their efforts frequently go unrecognized.
Beth-El Farmworker Ministry’s Commitment
At Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, we are devoted to supporting the farmworking community in West Central Florida. Our mission is to feed the mind, spirit, and body of farmworkers and our neighbors in need through opportunities for hunger relief, education, healthcare, and spiritual growth.
Our services include:
- Food Assistance: Providing a weekly food distribution on-site and at the farms to combat food insecurity.
- Educational Programs: A mentorship program for youth and young adults – Named Cosechando Sueños (Harvesting Dreams)
- Healthcare Services: Hosting a monthly dental clinics and partnering with healthcare providers to ensure access to medical care.
- Spiritual Support: Conducting worship services and spiritual guidance through our Nuevo Camino faith community.
